Inside the Danish designers' minds

Hans Wegner
Designer (1914 - 2007)
“A chair is to have no backside. It should be beautiful from all sides and angles.” - Hans Wegner is one of Denmark's greatest designers. His design is timeless, simple, and beautiful. He focused especially on chairs that can be seen from all angles, as it is an exhibition in itself.

Arne Jacobsen
Designer (1902 - 1971)
"Architecture tends to consume everything else, it has become one's entire life." - Arne Jacobsen was famous for introducing modernism to Denmark and was known as the rebel in Danish design.

Verner Panton
Designer (1926 - 1998)
"Choosing colors should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colors have a meaning and a function." - What can characterize Verner Panton's design is the use of clear, strong colors and exciting shapes.

Poul Kjærholm
Designer (1929 - 1980)
"We should try to keep our designs as simple as possible" - Poul Kjærholm did not compromise on either material or form. His furniture is still modern due to the simplicity of his style.

Poul Henningsen
Designer (1894 - 1967)
"When you have experienced real lighting, life is filled with new values" - Poul Henningsen was one of the greatest lighting designers. His lamps used carefully analyzed reflecting and baffling of the light rays from the bulb to achieve illumination that was not harsh and glaring but shed warm, soft light.

Jørn Utzon
Designer (1918 - 2008)
"The architect's gift to society is to bring joy to the people from the surroundings he creates." - Utzon had a Nordic sense of concern for nature which, in his design, emphasized the synthesis of form, material, and function for social values. His fascination with the architectural legacies of the ancient Mayas, the Islamic world, China, and Japan informed his practice.
