Inside the Danish designers' minds
Designer (1914 - 2007)
“A chair is to have no backside. It should be beautiful from all sides and angles.” - Hans Wegner is one of Denmark's greatest designers. His design is timeless, simple, and beautiful. He focused especially on chairs that can be seen from all angles, as it is an exhibition in itself.
Designer (1902 - 1971)
"Architecture tends to consume everything else, it has become one's entire life." - Arne Jacobsen was famous for introducing modernism to Denmark and was known as the rebel in Danish design.
Designer (1926 - 1998)
"Choosing colors should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colors have a meaning and a function." - What can characterize Verner Panton's design is the use of clear, strong colors and exciting shapes.
Designer (1929 - 1980)
"We should try to keep our designs as simple as possible" - Poul Kjærholm did not compromise on either material or form. His furniture is still modern due to the simplicity of his style.
Designer (1894 - 1967)
"When you have experienced real lighting, life is filled with new values" - Poul Henningsen was one of the greatest lighting designers. His lamps used carefully analyzed reflecting and baffling of the light rays from the bulb to achieve illumination that was not harsh and glaring but shed warm, soft light.
Designer (1918 - 2008)
"The architect's gift to society is to bring joy to the people from the surroundings he creates." - Utzon had a Nordic sense of concern for nature which, in his design, emphasized the synthesis of form, material, and function for social values. His fascination with the architectural legacies of the ancient Mayas, the Islamic world, China, and Japan informed his practice.

LYFA was founded in 1903 and initially named Kjøbenhavns Lampe- og Lysekronefabrik (Copenhagen Lamp and Chandelier Factory) with KLLF as the abbreviated version. At the beginning of the 1930s, the company changed its name to LYFA. Taking the LY from 'Lysekrone' and the FA from '-fabrik' as a homage to the origin of the business and how it all began. Since 1903, one of the founding principles of LYFA has been to create lighting designs for all occasions and to be the light in the daily life. LYFA crafts and explores lighting designs that build on decades of proud traditions within Danish design.
